The Underwater Archaeology Collection was organized in the 1960s parallel to the beginnings of underwater archaeological excavations in central Dalmatia. It was created through purchases of finds from sponge fishers in Krapanj, purchases and donations from other citizens, and reconnaissance and excavations. The Collection encompasses lead anchor stocks, various types of amphorae, and a high number of various ceramic vessels from the exploration of shipwrecks at Viganj on the Pelješac Peninsula, Vela Svitnja on the island of Vis, Palmižana next to the island of Hvar, and the remains of a hull from the shipwreck at Viganj.
